A Clearer View of Project Costs: What's New in Clearstory This October

October brings a number of new Clearstory updates focused on giving project teams better visibility into costs, more complete Work in Place reporting, and stronger connections to their accounting systems. From tracking the value of outstanding T&M Tags to connecting CORs with project cost codes and reducing duplicate data entry, here's what's new.

October at a Glance

  • See the value of outstanding T&M work. A new T&M Pending Cost Report estimates the value of T&M Tags using your saved rates and markups, helping teams identify costs that haven't yet made it onto a COR.
  • Track COR costs by cost code. Assign cost codes to COR line items and markups for more detailed project cost tracking and reporting.
  • Get a more complete view of Work in Place. Track progress on draft CORs and use new Rollup Report metrics to identify projects where work is getting ahead of approvals.
  • Connect Clearstory to Viewpoint Spectrum and Foundation. New integrations make it easier to move COR information directly into accounting systems without re-entering data.
  • More detailed Sage Intacct and Vista integrations. Expanded field mappings keep more COR pricing and labor information consistent across systems.

Get Ahead of Unpriced T&M Costs

Signed T&M Tags represent work that's already happened, but the associated costs don't always make it into a COR right away. That gap can leave project teams without a complete picture of their outstanding exposure.

The new T&M Pending Cost Report now available in beta helps close that gap by estimating the value of each T&M Tag using your saved rates and markups. Teams can see how much of that value is already accounted for on CORs, identify what may still need to be priced, and review the underlying rates and line items.

It's a faster way to understand the potential value of outstanding T&M work and make sure it doesn't get overlooked.

Connect CORs to Your Project Cost Codes

Clearstory now supports company and project-level cost codes (now available in beta), making it easier to organize and track Change Order costs against your existing Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).

Teams can assign cost codes directly to COR line items and markups as they price work, creating a more detailed view of where costs are accumulating. Cost codes remain visible only to your company, so you can maintain your own cost structure while collaborating with trade partners in Clearstory.

Get a More Complete Picture of Work in Place

October's Work in Place (WIP) updates give teams a better view of how much work has been completed, including changes that are still being priced or awaiting approval.

You can now track Percent Complete on draft detailed CORs and include those drafts in WIP reporting, helping capture work that might otherwise be missing from your project totals.

New metrics in the Rollup Report also highlight projects where sent or received CORs have exceeded your WIP thresholds. Each project receives a Healthy, At Risk, or Needs Attention status, making it easier to identify where approvals may be falling behind and take action before outstanding costs grow.

New Integration with Viewpoint Spectrum

Contractors using Viewpoint Spectrum can now connect their accounting system directly to Clearstory and push CORs into Spectrum as Change Requests. (Available in beta.)

With project information and cost coding connected between systems, teams can move Change Order information into their accounting workflow without manually recreating it, reducing administrative work and helping keep project cost information aligned.

New Integration with Foundation

Also available in beta. Clearstory now connects directly with Foundation, giving contractors another way to move Change Order information from project teams into accounting.

Once projects are connected, created and received CORs in Clearstory can be pushed directly into Foundation as Job Change Orders. That means less manual entry, fewer opportunities for information to get missed, and a more consistent view of changes across project and accounting teams.

More Complete Data in Sage Intacct and Vista

We've also expanded the information shared through our existing accounting integrations.

  • Sage Intacct: Labor quantities and unit costs now flow into Change Requests alongside total amounts, providing more complete pricing detail.
  • Vista: COR dates and labor hours now map directly to their corresponding PCO fields, improving consistency between systems.

These updates further reduce duplicate data entry and make it easier to keep accounting records aligned with the CORs being tracked in Clearstory. For teams using Sage Intacct, received CORs can be pushed directly into Change Requests, while Clearstory makes it easier to identify CORs that haven't yet been incorporated into the forecast.

Better Cost Visibility, From the Project to Accounting

October's updates help teams connect more of the information behind their Change Orders. New reporting capabilities make it easier to identify outstanding T&M costs, track work in progress, and understand where costs are accumulating. Expanded integrations help carry that information into accounting systems with less manual effort.

Together, these improvements give project and finance teams a clearer, more complete view of Change Order exposure, helping them stay ahead of potential gaps in their forecasts and manage costs with greater confidence.
